Our first inductee of the night is Cobi Christiansen. A 2007 graduate of St. James, Cobi excelled on the wrestling mat earning a career record of 126-12. He was a 4 year letterman on the wrestling team and was the 1st wrestler in school history to qualify for the South Carolina High School League State Championship. He was an All-State selection in 2003 and 2005 as well as a South Carolina High School League Lower State Champion in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, Cobi finished 2nd at the State Championship. Following high school, Cobi attended Coastal Carolina where he earned a degree in Marine Science and in 2017.
A 2009 graduate, Brunson was a 3 sport star for the Sharks in football, baseball and track leaving his mark on the oval. Brunson currently holds the St. James school record in the 400 meter. In 2009, he was selected as Toast of the Coast, All-Region, and All-State. At the 2009 South Carolina Track and Field State Championships, Brunson claimed two gold medals in the 400 meter and as a part of the 4x400 relay team. After high school, Miller continued to excel on the track as a member of The Citadel and Clemson University track and field teams. During his time he won 7 Southern Conference Championships and 2 ACC Conference Championships and was a 2-time All-American. He currently holds the Southern Conference 400 meter record.
A 2011 graduate, Tanner participated in both track and field and baseball for the Sharks. In 2010, English set 3 St. James track and field school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 4x100 meter relay. While successful on the track, Tanner truly excelled on the baseball diamond earning All-Region and All-State honors in 2011. In 2011 he was also selected to participate in the North Carolina/South Carolina Select game. He currently holds the St. James single season record in runs scored, doubles, and stolen bases and is the St. James all-time career leader in stolen bases and home runs. In 2011, Tanner helped guide the Sharks baseball team to the South Carolina Baseball State Championship alongside fellow recipient, Gunnar Heidt. After high school Tanner played baseball for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB draft.
A 2011 graduate, Gunner excelled in 3 sports for the Sharks in track, basketball, and baseball. On the track, Gunnar was a member of the 2010 4x100 meter relay team that currently holds the St. James school record. On the diamond, Heidt was selected All-Region and All-State in 2010 and 2011. He currently holds the St. James season record for hits, homeruns, and RBI’s in a season. After an impressive 2011 that helped lead the Sharks to a South Carolina State Baseball Championship, Gunnar was named South Carolina 3A Player of the Year. After high school, Gunnar attended the College of Charleston on a baseball scholarship and in 2014 was drafted in the 13th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the MLB draft.
Our next recipient is Hannah Price. A 2014 graduate, Hannah was a 2 sport athlete for the Sharks in softball and basketball. On the hardwood, Price was a 4 year letter winner for the Sharks, earning All-Region honors in 2014. On the softball diamond is where Hannah excelled, being named All-Region for 5 years from 2010 through 2014. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, she was named Toast of the Coast and All-State. She was selected as the 2014 Region Player of the Year and was selected to participate in the North/South All-Star game. As a Shark, Hannah helped lead the softball team to back-back-back region and district championships. After high school, Hannah attended Coker University on a softball scholarship.
A 2016 graduate of St. James, Michael wrestled for the Sharks earning 135 career wins. In 2015 and 2016 he was selected both All-Region and All-State as well as winning the 3A South Carolina High School League wrestling Lower-State Championship. In 2016, Michael won the 145 pound 3A South Carolina State Wrestling Championship. He was a North/South All-Star wrestler and voted Toast of the Coast “most Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.” After his time at St. James, Michael went on to wrestle alongside his brother at The Citadel.
