PAULA LEE

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Ms. Paula Lee served as the Athletic Director at St. James from 2004-2018. During her 14 years leading the Sharks, she was instrumental in the addition of both boy’s and girl’s lacrosse teams, as well as competition cheer. At the helm, Paula Lee and her coaches won 62 region championships, 16 individual state championships, and 5 team state championships. In 2008 and 20011 she was named Region Athletic Director of the Year. She has been a long time member of both the South Carolina Athletic Caoches Association and the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association. In 2012 she earned the CAA certification and in 2019 was awarded the SCAAA Distinguished Service Award and was inducted into the SCAAA Hall of Fame ins 2024.

DANIEL SINGLETON

CROSS COUNTRY, TRACK

A 2007 graduate of St. James, Daniel excelled as a runner for the Sharks participating in both Cross Country and Track and Field. In 2005 and 2006 he was an All-Region selection and in 2005 helped lead the cross country team to its first ever Region Championship. On the track Daniel was an All-Region selection in 2007 in the 400 meter and the 4x400 meter relay. This performance helped lead the Sharks track and field team to a Region Championship. In 2007 Daniel was also an Horry County Champion as well as being named to the All-State team after winning a State Championship in both the 800 meter and the 4x400 meter relay.

ADRIAN DAVIS

TRACK

Our next recipient is Adrian Davis. A 2007 graduate, Davis excelled on the oval bringing St. James its first ever State Championship. He was an two time All-Region selection in 2006 and 2007 leading the Sharks to Back to Back Region titles. IAs a Junior, Davis took first place in at the South Carolina High School League State Track and Field Championships in the 400 meter hurdles giving the Sharks their first State Championship. Adrian followed up this performance as a senior taking first place in both the 400 meter hurdles, and the 4x400 meter relay making him the only 3-time State Champion in St. James history.

INGRAM BELL

FOOTBALL, BASEBALL, TRACK

A 2008 graduate, Ingram was a 3-sport athlete for the Sharks in football, baseball, and track. In 2006 Ingram was selected to the All-State football team and the All-Region Baseball team. On the track, Ingram was a 3-time All-Region and All-Horry County runner for the Sharks in 2006, 2007, & 2008. In 2007 and 2008 Ingram became an All-State recipient after winning back-to-back South Carolina High School League State Championships in the 4x400 meter relay. After high school, Ingram attended Appalachian State on a football scholarship where he assisted in leading Mountaineers to multiple conference championships while pursuing his studies in Mass Communication.

BRANDON TYSON

TRACK

A 2008 graduate, Brandon was a standout runner for the Sharks helping guide them to back-to-back region titles in 2006 and 2007. Brandon was a two-time South Carolina High School League State Champion taking 1st place in both the 400 meter dash and 4x400 meter relay.

DEWAYNE DUNHAM

FOOTBALL, TRACK, BASKETBALL

A 2009 graduate, DeWayne was a 3 sport standout for the Sharks. On the gridiron, Dunham was a three year letterman from 2006-2008. In 2009 he was selected to the WPDE Endzone Team Region 6 3A All-Region team. DeWayne excelled on the Track being selected All-Horry County and All-Region in 2008 and 2009. His All-Region performance in 2009, helped lead the Sharks to a Region Championship. In 2008 and 2009, DeWayne would take 1st place in the 4x400 meter relay earning him back-to-back South Carolina High School League State Championships. After high school, DeWayne attended Methodist University on a football scholarship where he earned his degree in physical education. l. On the hardwood, Price was a 4 year letter winner for the Sharks, earning All-Region honors in 2014. He would then return to Horry County Schools working as a physical education teacher and coaching football.

CHAD ALLSTON

FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, TRACK

A 2009 graduate, Chad was a 3-sport letterman for the Sharks in football, basketball, and track. On the track, Chad was an All-Region selection in 2008 and 2009 as well as being selected to All-Horry County. He was a contributing member of the 2009 Region Track and Field Championship team. In 2008 and 2009, Chad would join fellow recipient DeWayne Dunham in the 4x400 meter relay and would earn back-to-back South Carolina High School League State Championships.

COBI CHRISTIANSEN

WRESTLING

Our first inductee of the night is Cobi Christiansen. A 2007 graduate of St. James, Cobi excelled on the wrestling mat earning a career record of 126-12. He was a 4 year letterman on the wrestling team and was the 1st wrestler in school history to qualify for the South Carolina High School League State Championship. He was an All-State selection in 2003 and 2005 as well as a South Carolina High School League Lower State Champion in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, Cobi finished 2nd at the State Championship. Following high school, Cobi attended Coastal Carolina where he earned a degree in Marine Science and in 2017.

BRUNSON MILLER

TRACK AND FIELD, BASEBALL, FOOTBALL

A 2009 graduate, Brunson was a 3 sport star for the Sharks in football, baseball and track leaving his mark on the oval. Brunson currently holds the St. James school record in the 400 meter. In 2009, he was selected as Toast of the Coast, All-Region, and All-State. At the 2009 South Carolina Track and Field State Championships, Brunson claimed two gold medals in the 400 meter and as a part of the 4x400 relay team. After high school, Miller continued to excel on the track as a member of The Citadel and Clemson University track and field teams. During his time he won 7 Southern Conference Championships and 2 ACC Conference Championships and was a 2-time All-American. He currently holds the Southern Conference 400 meter record.

TANNER ENGLISH

BASEBALL, TRACK AND FIELD

A 2011 graduate, Tanner participated in both track and field and baseball for the Sharks. In 2010, English set 3 St. James track and field school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 4x100 meter relay. While successful on the track, Tanner truly excelled on the baseball diamond earning All-Region and All-State honors in 2011. In 2011 he was also selected to participate in the North Carolina/South Carolina Select game. He currently holds the St. James single season record in runs scored, doubles, and stolen bases and is the St. James all-time career leader in stolen bases and home runs. In 2011, Tanner helped guide the Sharks baseball team to the South Carolina Baseball State Championship alongside fellow recipient, Gunnar Heidt. After high school Tanner played baseball for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB draft.

GUNNAR HEIDT

BASEBALL, BASKETBALL, TRACK AND FIELD

A 2011 graduate, Gunner excelled in 3 sports for the Sharks in track, basketball, and baseball. On the track, Gunnar was a member of the 2010 4x100 meter relay team that currently holds the St. James school record. On the diamond, Heidt was selected All-Region and All-State in 2010 and 2011. He currently holds the St. James season record for hits, homeruns, and RBI’s in a season. After an impressive 2011 that helped lead the Sharks to a South Carolina State Baseball Championship, Gunnar was named South Carolina 3A Player of the Year. After high school, Gunnar attended the College of Charleston on a baseball scholarship and in 2014 was drafted in the 13th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the MLB draft.

HANNAH PRICE

SOFTBALL, BASKETBALL

Our next recipient is Hannah Price. A 2014 graduate, Hannah was a 2 sport athlete for the Sharks in softball and basketball. On the hardwood, Price was a 4 year letter winner for the Sharks, earning All-Region honors in 2014. On the softball diamond is where Hannah excelled, being named All-Region for 5 years from 2010 through 2014. In 2012, 2013, and 2014, she was named Toast of the Coast and All-State. She was selected as the 2014 Region Player of the Year and was selected to participate in the North/South All-Star game. As a Shark, Hannah helped lead the softball team to back-back-back region and district championships. After high school, Hannah attended Coker University on a softball scholarship.

MICHAEL MEWHORTER

WRESTLING

A 2016 graduate of St. James, Michael wrestled for the Sharks earning 135 career wins. In 2015 and 2016 he was selected both All-Region and All-State as well as winning the 3A South Carolina High School League wrestling Lower-State Championship. In 2016, Michael won the 145 pound 3A South Carolina State Wrestling Championship. He was a North/South All-Star wrestler and voted Toast of the Coast “most Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.” After his time at St. James, Michael went on to wrestle alongside his brother at The Citadel.
